You are planning a trip
to Vietnam and taking a cruise in Halong Bay is a must.
But how many days does it take to discover this
heritage? Well, the time you need to visit depends on
your budget and especially on what you expect from your
trip. May it be 1 day, 2 days or 3 days, in general,
there are three types of cruises in Halong Bay:

1 day trip
If you don't have enough time but don't want to miss
Halong Bay, a day trip is a good choice to get a glimpse
of the bay. However, if you have more time, we do not
recommend this option because you will be taken to the
touristic places like
Thien Cung Cave and
Dau Go Cave.
Also, the trip departing from Hanoi starts around 7am
and ends around 8pm.
It takes about 3 hours to get to
Halong Bay from Hanoi and 3 hours to get back.
Therefore, the day trip to the bay will actually last
only 4-6 hours. So you have too little time to
appreciate the beauty of Halong Bay.
Unless you have an extremely tight travel schedule, we
do not recommend
discovering Halong Bay in one day. You
will then not have the opportunity to go to the heart of
Halong Bay and in the end you will have spent more time
in transfers than contemplating the grandiose landscapes
of Halong Bay . In addition, the companies that offer
this day excursion do not pay attention to the quality
of the services. We also advise you not to sleep in the
city of Halong which is without charm and without much
interest.
Halong bay 2 days and 1 night cruise
Most tourists choose the Halong Bay cruise for two days
and one night. It is a good option to fully enjoy this
breathtaking natural site.
This is the formula most popular with travelers, the one
which allows you to take a cruise to the heart of the
limestone wonderland of Halong with a night on board the
boat. Sailing on this sea bristling with thousands of
strangely shaped islands and islets is a magical
spectacle. The schedule of your cruise in Halong Bay
will depend on the level of services that you have
previously chosen, but generally cruises of 2 days/1
night in Halong follow a roughly similar pattern. After
almost 3 hours of transfer you arrive at the pier where
you board your boat. Welcome by the crew with a welcome
drink, installation in your cabin then a seafood lunch
served to you as the cruise begins. While feasting on
local specialties, you contemplate the spectacular
seascapes of Halong Bay.
After a rest period which you can spend relaxing on a
deckchair on the upper deck, the crew will offer you
various activities, depending on the company, such as a
kayak trip, the discovery of a floating fishing village
and a pearl farm or the ascent of
Titov island which
offers a breathtaking panoramic view of Halong Bay. The
sunset is another great spectacle offered to you while
sipping an aperitif. Some companies offer massage
treatments and/or a cooking class to end this beautiful
day in style. Dinner will once again be an opportunity
to awaken your taste buds and discover other local
specialties. After dinner, you might be invited to try
your hand at squid fishing or karaoke with the crew.
Waking up at dawn with a Tai Chi class as the sun slowly
rises is another great moment of your cruise. After
breakfast, you will be offered an activity such as
visiting one of the many
caves which offer impressive
geological formations. You will have time to enjoy the
fantastic scenery of Halong Bay from the upper deck as
the boat makes its way to port. After lunch, you will
have to say goodbye to the crew and then join the
vehicle which will take you to Hanoi or another
destination of your choice.

Halong bay cruise 3 days and 2 nights
If you have more time and budget, you can take a
three-day, two-night cruise in Halong Bay to relax and
experience the bay in depth.
The 3-day cruise follows roughly the same itinerary as
the 2-day cruise. However, the extra day allows you to
deviate from the main axis and explore more remote areas
less frequented by tourists.
For travelers who want to experience more of the natural
wonders of Halong Bay by extending their trip to Halong
Bay by a day, there are several options available to
them. They can make a stopover on the island of Cat Ba
to enjoy the beaches of the island, its national park
rich in great biodiversity, to take a pleasant bike ride
or to discover the fabulous bay of neighboring Lan Ha
from Halong Bay.
It is also possible to continue your cruise in Halong to
discover
Bai Tu Long Bay, further from the coast than
Halong and
Lan Ha bay and therefore much less crowded.
Although Bai Tu Long Bay has fewer karst formations than
its neighbor Halong Bay, it is no less spectacular. We
particularly appreciate the island of Ban Sen, very wild
and hospitable, and of course the magnificent island of
Quan Lan. A destination off the beaten track where you
can peacefully enjoy long pristine white sand beaches,
the picturesque local life turned towards the sea, the
friendliness of the population and the seafood feasts.
Choice of sleeping on
Quan Lan Island or spending your
second night on the boat.
So, how much time will you devote to Halong Bay? The
longer you stay, the more outdoor activities you can do...
