On 13th September, at Tuan Chau International Tourist
Harbour, Quang Ninh Province in corporation with Japan
International Cooperation Agency JICA awarded Green Sail
Eco-label and logo for the first two
cruise ships in Halong bay.
This is the activity under the project "Promoting Green
Growth in Ha Long Bay" funded by JICA in the second
phase.
Two
cruise ships awarded with Green Sails are the Au Co QN - 8889 of Bhaya Ltd. and QN - 8298 of Bien Ngoc Ltd.
Ecological label Green Sail is an award granted to
cruise ships that meet environmental and social
responsibility standards, making effort to protect the
environment, effectively use energy resources, and
contribute to the preservation of the region's economy,
culture and society in order to
develop sustainable
tourism.
In order to be certified as Green Sail, cruise ships
must meet 29 criteria, including 15 mandatory criteria,
nine incentive criteria, five advanced criteria, focus
on sustainable operation on environment, preventing and
minimizing noise pollution, air pollution, waste
minimization, wastewater and biodiversity protection.
In the coming time, Quang Ninh province will continue to
tighten state management of environmental protection in
Ha Long Bay, putting the Green Sail on all cruise ships.
The vessels that are not eligible for Green Sail will
not be allowed to operate on Ha Long Bay, contributing
to improving service quality, protecting the
environment, and developing sustainable tourism.
